Erasers, sharpeners and blending tools

There are other tools that are used in drawing. These include erasers, sharpeners, blending tools, paper and drawing inks. While most of us may think that erasers are required to erase mistakes and redraw, they are not tools only for correction. In fact there are two kinds of erasers that exist - the kneadable eraser is used to for pencils, charcoal and pastels and the plastic eraser. Erasers are often cut off with a pen knife to get a clean straight edge in order to be able to erase crisp and thin lines.

Sharpeners are an essential part of the tools that you have in order to be able to use the drawing instruments. If you invest in a two-hole eraser that has sharp and straight blades you should be able to sharpen your instruments. A poor quality sharpener can break the point of your valuable drawing material causing a lot of wastage. In order to get the right kind of point that you are looking for you can also use sandpaper after you have sharpened the drawing instrument. In case you want to dull the sharpened point only slightly, all you need to do is to rub the point on a rough sheet of paper for a while.

Blending tools include things like a small tissue paper, paper stumps or tortillons. Sometimes you can achieve the same result by using your finger on to the drawing if the area is small. Tortillons can be cut in order to create an edge if you want to use it only in some parts.
